How It Works

Three steps to relief

No complicated setup. No waiting for pills to kick in. Just a quiet moment with noise-cancelling earbuds.

1

Put on noise-cancelling earbuds

AirPods Pro recommended — enable Active Noise Cancellation for best results. Find a quiet environment.

2

Press play for 60 seconds

A gentle 100 Hz tone stabilizes your vestibular system — the balance center in your inner ear.

3

Stay protected for 2 hours

The stabilizing effect lasts up to 2 hours. A countdown timer lets you know when to refresh.

The Research

Backed by university research

Stillwave is based on a peer-reviewed 2025 study from Nagoya University, Japan.

“Just 1-min exposure to a pure tone at 100 Hz with daily exposable sound pressure levels may improve motion sickness [by stabilizing] autonomic function and balance.”

FAQ

Common questions

Is this the same as Samsung's Hearapy app?

Stillwave is an independent app inspired by the same Nagoya University research that Samsung's Hearapy is based on. Hearapy is only available on Android — Stillwave brings the same research-backed concept to iPhone. Both work with any earbuds.

Does it actually work?

The underlying research, published in Environmental Health and Preventive Medicine (2025), found that a 100 Hz pure tone may help reduce motion sickness symptoms. Individual results may vary. Stillwave is a wellness tool, not a medical device.

Do I need AirPods Pro?

Any earbuds or headphones work, but AirPods Pro are strongly recommended. Their Active Noise Cancellation blocks outside noise, letting the 100 Hz tone reach your inner ear without interference. If you don't have noise-cancelling earbuds, use Stillwave in the quietest environment possible.

Do I need a quiet environment?

Yes. The 100 Hz tone works best when it's the dominant sound reaching your inner ear. Ambient noise — engine rumble, chatter, music — can reduce effectiveness. Use noise-cancelling earbuds (AirPods Pro recommended) or find a quiet spot. Do not play music or other audio during the 60-second session.

Does it work in the background?

Yes. The tone continues playing when you switch to other apps or lock your phone. The 60-second session completes even if you're not looking at the screen.

Is there a subscription?

No. Stillwave is $0.99 one-time purchase. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no data collection. You pay once and use it forever.

Is it safe for children?

The 100 Hz tone is a low-frequency sound at moderate volume. However, we recommend parental supervision and consulting a pediatrician for children with hearing sensitivities.

Ready to ride without the nausea?

No pills. No patches. No side effects. Just 60 seconds of sound.
